excerpt from the book:

"It was a hot  afternoon in midsummer of 1982 when Elden hooked up the small wagon to the rider mower to haul some trash out to the dumping ground in front of the stand of trees. Cloud cover had been increasing for about an hour, yet the sky did not have that yellowish, lowering look that so often precedes a tornado. The trash now loaded unto the wagon, Elden started up the rider mower and drove slowly down the road toward the west edge of Lakeview Hills. The clouds began turning ominously dark, the wind started to pick up, and then that yellowish hue that so often preceded a tornado crept over the sky to the west. The sound of the wind gently rustling through the trees was soon drowned out by the shrillness of this new wind whistling madly as it accelerated eastward. Suddenly there it was -  a swirling funnel cloud less than a mile to the west! And it was whipping its way directly towards Lakeview Hills! In fact, the tornado was moving in a line to go directly toward the trash dump where Elden was still unloading trash from the wagon hooked to the back of the rider mower. Elden was in line to meet a tornado...."
